Dreams & Reality
"Reality is the framework on which we build our Dreams"
Without our realities, we'd have no dreams. If our realities contained everything that made us happy, we'd have nothing to dream about or aim for. Don't curse your realities, cherish them. They have given birth to the dreams you hold so dear.

UGO MOZIE | THE INTERVIEW
UGO MOZIE takes a moment to chat with Fashion Et Al about being a fashion consultant and designer. After completing high school in Texas, he began Aston Mozie, a unisex clothing line with high-school friend, Aston Quinn. Inspired in part by history (Renaissance, Egyptian art) and by childhood (he used to love airsoft guns), Aston Mozie epitomizes freedom of expression with style. Comfort is key, and so is standing out and being an individual.
Define Style.
Style is the way an individual expresses, performs, says or does a particular thing. With fashion, style is quality of imagination and individuality expressed through your wardrobe.
When did you fall in love with fashion?
I became aware of fashion and style when I was in 4th grade. I fell in love with the art of fashion when I was about eleven or twelve years.
A lot of people are mystified about stylists and what they do. We've heard of Edward Enninful, Grace Coddington, Mboko Ndimba Mobutu. What is their role in the vast fashion industry?
Stylists play a very large role in the fashion industry. They are the threshold of many magazines, celebrities and events. There is a stylist behind every fashion show, performance, television broadcast, and red carpet event. So I believe people like Grace, Edward and Mboko deserve a huge amount of respect and homage for their roles in the industry.
You live in NYC, and frequently return to your native country, Nigeria. How has this influenced your vision as a stylist and fashion enthusiast?
Nigeria, and Africa in general, plays a big part in my career. Most of my shoots and jobs often have a tribal twist to them. I incorporate tribal pieces in most of my ensembles; it gives them a certain sense of power and character. Visiting Africa yearly definitely refreshes my mind and always sends me back with an abundance of inspiration and enlightenment.
Alexander McQueen, Plato's Atlantis. Any thoughts?
Alexander McQueen is...Alexander McQueen. I don't even know where to start when it comes to his genius. I believe he is the epitome of Art in fashion. He brought his vision to life and stunned the world with every show. He is definitely a legend. May his soul rest in peace.
You recently joined the GHUBAR Magazine team as a stylist, and worked with Dawn Richard of Bad Boy Entertainment. You're on the cover of American Dreaming Magazine, Sept/Oct 2010 issue. You're constantly pictured with successful celebrities. And yet, you remain one of the most humble men out there. Is this simply attributable to good upbringing?
My humility comes from many different aspects of my life. My parents definitely played a large role in that. Growing up, I was exposed to many sides of the world and of life. I've lived in mansions abroad, and apartments in Inglewood, Carlifornia. I believed this factor allowed me to understand the different sides of life. I see rags to riches stories everyday, so I treat everyone the same. I don't believe in one person being better than another.
You are also a designer, and have a collection on www.astonmozie.com. Can you tell us more about the line, and what inspires you to create clothes?
Quinn Aston and I created Aston Mozie a year ago. We began by making clothes for ourselves, to be different, and we eventually ended up selling some. We showed our first collection during New York Fashion Week in February. We were both really influenced by our childhood. Growing up in the suburbs, there weren't much options in shopping or fashion, so we had no choice but to create our own clothes.
The fashion industry has officially expanded to Africa, following "The African Collective" during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2009. African designers are slowly gaining international recognition, with a few pieces featured in editorials by Big Name magazines. What do you think is the future of African Fashion?
The future is Evident - with designers like Deola Sagoe, Jewel by Lisa, Amzy Gah N'Lah, House of Versatile Styles, and Ugo Mozie, the world better be ready for whats to come!!

JEWELRY COLLECTION | Loin Cloth & Ashes
Every good designer knows that the true money is in accessories, which are cheaper than clothes. Anisa Mpungwe's line for Loin Cloth and Ashes is a perfect complement to her minimalistic, tailored look. Blue and sand belts, earrings and belts on wood, leather and burnt gold chains make a statement on her signature LBD.

Loin Cloth & Ashes by Anisa Mpungwe
LOIN CLOTH & ASHES by Anisa Mpungwe was created for the woman who wants an alternative to the Little Black Dress. Dresses are made for the woman who dares to be different, with structured silhouettes and minimalistic lines, for an indisputable look of maturity and sophistication. Details and prints in a splash of royal blue give an elegant yet edgy feel, an insignia of confidence for the woman who wears the brand.
Loin Cloth and Ashes comes from the term "sackcloth and ashes", a Hebrew custom of expressing humility before a higher spirit dressed in sackcloth and dusting oneself with ashes.

PHIWASE NXUMALO | House Of Diva
HOUSE OF DIVA is a Swaziland based fashion-line by Phiwase Nxumalo. More importantly, it is the only fashion line to be featured during the first ever 2009 ARISE Africa Fashion Week. I am so proud!!!
Phiwase Nxumalo launched the first and only SWAZI FACE OF FASHION in 2004, and this was a sign that her line was destined for bigger things previously unseen in the small kingdom. She went on to receive the prestigious BEST NEW COMER IN FASHION DESIGNING 2009 award at the ARISE Africa Fashion Event.
During the same event on June 18 2009, she dressed the Chair of Africa Fashion International Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe. AFI founded, owns, and operates the most important fashion weeks in African namely: AUDI Joburg Fashion Week (Autumn/Winter), ARISE Africa Fashion Week, Cape Town Fashion Week (Spring/Summer) and Durban Fashion Week (50% ownership). AFI also hosts the Africa Fashion Awards which annually recognizes talented persons in the fashion world.
HOUSE OF DIVA showed 20 pieces for the event.
